“Global Competence Promotion Plan for Students of Jilin University” Project of College of Biological and Agricultural Engineering Officially Launched

To enhance students' international exposure, develop their global competency, and contribute to the "double first-class" initiative, the Office of Global Engagement provided strong support for the "Global Competence Promotion Plan for Students of Jilin University in Winter Vacation 2021 (Online Project)". As a part of this plan, the College of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, in collaboration with the National University of Singapore, officially launched the online course "Vibration Theory and Application" on March 1, 2021. This course aims to broaden students' horizons and improve their understanding of global issues.

The National University of Singapore, a partner in this project, is ranked first in the 2021 QS Asian University Ranking and 11th in the 2021 QS World University Ranking, cementing its position as a world-class university in Singapore. Associate Professor Ong Eng Teo and Professor Lee Heow Pueh from the Department of Mechanical Engineering have been invited to teach the English elective course "Vibration Theory and Application" to undergraduate students.

Associate Professor Lee Heow Pueh, who obtained his Master's and Doctoral degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University in the United States after graduating from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, has returned to the National University of Singapore to teach. Meanwhile, Professor Ong Eng Teo earned his Doctoral degree from the National University of Singapore and previously worked as a research scientist dedicated to breaking the mechanical limitations of hard disks before pursuing a career in education.

This course is specifically designed for junior and senior students majoring in agricultural mechanization and automation, as well as packaging engineering. Thirty students were selected based on their registration and English proficiency scores.

This online English course, organized by the College of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, is a new initiative in response to the COVID-19 epidemic. During the winter vacation, the college utilized an online platform to offer overseas courses, leveraging high-quality teaching resources from around the world. This allowed students to experience the teaching methods and classroom atmosphere of foreign teachers, and to become familiar with different teaching platform systems, offering a brand-new learning experience.

Moreover, this initiative has laid the foundation for further promoting teaching reforms within the college and enhancing the internationalization of student training. Overall, this online English course represents an innovative approach to adapt to the current crisis and provide students with valuable learning opportunities.
